Jasperlite Intergenerational Farm
Our Farm to School program...
....has proven to be in high demand with our youth, parents, school staff and community members. 88% of our students in our fall farm to school program reported trying NEW vegetables. 70% reported liking a fresh vegetable that they previously thought they disliked. 62% reported "liking" or "LOVING" fresh salad. All the students participated in growing and harvesting these vegetables and when the school was shut to the students for Covid-19 isolation, 100% reported that they missed our Farm to School program most above all else in their school experience. This winter our 5th grade students participated in a Healthy Cooking Challenge. The Marquette Coop donated all the produce and the results were three new STUDENT CREATED HEALTHY RECIPES were introduced into the school cafeteria this spring.
With all this success and momentum we are thrilled to share some exciting news: we received a grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund in 2021 and we will begin plans for a 2-acre, intergenerational farm next to Ishpeming School and the Jasperlite Senior Housing. This site will be the foundation of an elevated and expanded Farm-to-School and Ag Tech program, in partnership with Ishpeming School District, MARESA, MiSTEM, NMU, GA HAAN and more. We are calling it, “Growing Future Farmers, Eaters, and Leaders”.
Our partners at UPEA have created an initial plan for us below. Lots more information to come as we became planning for a 2022 site launch.
Thank you for your contribution. If you're looking for other ways to support our cause, please consider volunteering your time and talents to Partridge Creek Farm.
